El Charro re-opened close to downtown! Yeah!!!! If you have never been, go try a soft cheese dinner.

I accidentally posted this to the church blog a little bit ago. I thought I was logged into my personal blog page. It not only went on the church website, but went to about 65 people's email accounts. These people were expecting to receive a prayer request. I think I have all of that cleared up now. Oops! I am glad that is all I posted.

It's Friday!! It snowed again, but only a trace...just enough to get us excited. The boys woke up and saw the snow and immediately asked if school was cancelled. Unfortunately, school wasn't cancelled.

Please pray for my doctor visit on Monday. I am going to neurologist to see if we can figure out why my right arm and left leg are going numb.

March 6, 2008 -- Maintaining a Quiet Spirit -- Proverbs 26:4
When conflict arises, we often times want to rush in and defend our position. Perhaps we even feel justified in blaming others. However, James 1:19 gives different advice for dealing with tension and disputes: "Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger." In other words, more can be accomplished through a calm approach to the situation. Scripture also suggests that we:
• Pray. First, we should ask the Lord to guard our mouth and give us the right words to say (Luke 12:12). Also, we ought to request discernment concerning the root issue and insight as to whether we might be at fault.
• See with divine perspective. Our sovereign Lord works every situation for the believer's benefit (Romans 8:28). Not only does God use difficulties to teach us, but He also allows us to demonstrate the life of Christ by the way we respond.
• Forgive. Even if someone has hurt us by causing the conflict, we should forgive. Jesus died to pardon all of our sin, and we, in turn, should forgive others. In fact, if we don't, our lives will become burdened by resentment and broken relationships.
• Respond. If we have done something wrong, we should apologize and ask forgiveness. Otherwise, we can express appreciation that the other person took time to share his concern. Also, we should affirm that we will carefully consider his comments.
How do you respond to conflict? Pray for the strength to stay calm and do what is right, even during difficult, emotional situations.

Today is TAKS testing at school. Joshua has a reading test that they must pass to advance to 4th grade. He has been doing well on practice tests. Our tradition is that on these test days, I cook a big breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits. Joshua, being the picky one, ate only bacon and hash browns. Jacob, Kaci and Manuel enjoyed everything else. Joshua took water and pretzels as a snack and a hot dog and ruffles for lunch. Jacob and Kaci took water and a small pillow. The school will provide them crackers for snack.

Here are a couple of thoughts for the day:

Forgiveness is the only response that will keep you from becoming a victim of bitterness.

God blesses us so that we may bless others.

Most of us, including me, seem to pray more often when we have a circumstance that we don't have control over. God wants us to continually rely on Him for EVERYTHING. He will answer all our prayers, according to HIS will. He will either say yes, later or I have something better for you.

We were hoping for a little more snow than this! The sun is shining so this will be gone shortly. I think the boys were disappointed only because they wanted school to be cancelled..haha

I read a couple of verses today that focus on us being good listeners and only saying things that will strengthen one another's spirits. We should be understanding, build people up and positively impact their lives. If they open up their heart to you, listen and then respond wisely and properly.

Proverbs 20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out.

Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Proverbs 18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?

Missions Week

We finished up Missions Week at our church yesterday. Our family hosted one of the 3 guest missionary families. What a blessing this week was to our family. We have new friends and a more personal outlook on missions. I am so thankful for God allowing us to be a part of this and will always cherish the special memories made this past week.
